There are more than 27,000 fire departments in the USA, with 43% of all firehouses more than 40 years old. Many of those stations are not equipped to meet the needs of today’s first responders. Our goal in the Charleston region is to bring stations like these up to date while providing better health, living, environmental, and overall working conditions.
Using our recently completed station, Isle of Palms, as a bellwether, we are seeking to expand our design partnerships across South Carolina.
CR has won over 40 public safety facility awards for design, architecture, and innovation across the 340+ governmental projects and 40 years of architectural experience.

CR has built and renovated more than 340 public safety facilities across the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. Regarding fire safety, CR champions their proprietary Training by Design program which includes extensive training props that improve the versatility and utility of the station. Over time these innovations pay for themselves, ultimately saving both the department and the community money, as well as saving lives. In fact facilities that have adopted Training by Demand stated that their training opportunities increased by 92% year-over-year; delivering better trained, prepared, and skilled fire fighters.
Each project is overseen by CR’s team of Training by Design experts. Including David Arends (Chairman + CEO of CR architecture + design) and Rich Tyler (Portland, OR - Fire and Rescue Lieutenant / Fire Inspector – CR Public Safety Liaison), both of whom demonstrated CR's public and fire safety facility design expertise at the latest Station Design Conference, hosted by FIREHOUSE magazine and have been asked to return next year when the conference moves to Glendale, Arizona.
Together we will create a facility that serves your community now and far into the future. The team at CR and Red Iron will work side by side with your procurement, development, and service representatives to provide them with the knowledge needed to inform, persuade, and succeed.
